A Message from Max! | |
I took some time as we were closing the camp after another summer
session, and as I was looking at the names of previous directors on
the wall of the office I realized that I just completed my 11th year
as camp director.
I asked myself what I have achieved here over the years. Of course I
started to itemize all the accomplishments, but after a while it
struck me that it was more than the numbers such as camper
registration, dollars spent, facility improvements and even program
expansion and innovation.
I started to think about who I am, what I do, and why I continue to
work with youth for the past 30 plus years. To be able to work with
people and make a difference can be seen as a cliché that is over
used by many... but think for a moment as to what we do here at our
special place... camp.
We invite any child to attend our camp and we make every effort to
make the necessary arrangements to meet their many differences. We
create an atmosphere and philosophy of acceptance, tolerance and
respect for everyone.
We make every effort to find the funds to help those who need it, should
it be for camper registration or supplies. We ensure that the camp is always in
good working order so to provide a healthy and safe place for all of our
children. And we work hard at being responsible, accountable, solid
role models for both our campers and staff alike.
We are committed to the mission and vision of our camp...to allow
children to be children... to feel comfortable with who they are...
and to see that in every challenge, there is a sense of accomplishment.

I have come to a place in my career and a realization that this camp
we believe in and love for so many different reasons, allows me to
grow and maintain the enthusiasm to work with so many young people.
We do make a difference... and we must believe and do what we can to
ensure that our camp lives on for many years.
We're proud that after 55 years the camp is still going strong and we're
planning for many more years in the future.
Summer 2010 is going to be an amazing summer!
